Daniel Lopez is a versatile visual artist renowned for his work across multiple disciplines, including ceramics and watercolour. Born in Andalusia, Spain, Daniel's artistic path was profoundly influenced by his mother, a professional printer, and his creative upbringing. His journey from Spain to England, via Cuba, and his subsequent artistic rebirth is a testament to his dedication, versatility, and unwavering passion for art.
Daniel is celebrated for his ability to traverse multiple artistic disciplines with ease. Finding the right medium to express his creative language. Daniel’s work in ceramics and watercolour exemplifies his diverse skill set and his capacity to innovate within traditional mediums. Each piece, whether it’s a dramatic watercolour painting or a finely crafted ceramic sculpture of a cardboard box, showcases his meticulous attention to detail and his profound understanding of form, technique and colour.
Daniel’s journey is a testament to the power of dedication and versatility. He honed his craft through extensive studies in Spain and Cuba, developing a unique creative language. His hard work paid off, with his art being showcased in museums and galleries, and collected by private art enthusiasts. At a crucial juncture, Daniel had the opportunity to study under one of Spain's top ceramicists but chose a different path. He moved to England to learn English, a brave decision that took him away from his art practice for three years and required him to restart his career in a new country.
EXPLORATION AND PLAY!
Having relocated to Birmingham, Daniel re-found art and creating and fell in love with the drama of the city. The infrastructure constantly changing and the juxtaposition of aged decadence and gleaming modernity creating a bizarre yet fascinating cityscape. Using this as his inspiration, Daniel began exploring and experimenting with the techniques of watercolour and using rain as a medium.
Starting with black ink in the studio, Daniel would take paintings outside, allowing the rain and gravity to transform and erase the work in unpredictable ways. This process led to a profound realisation: I could blend the eclectic architecture of these cities with the natural forces of water and gravity. This innovative approach allows Daniel to capture the drama of these ever-changing landscapes. The rain marks on walls, weathered bricks, and the passage of time are all woven into the work, offering a snapshot of cities perpetually in transition.
Recently, Daniel’s artistic exploration has expanded to include the vibrant cities of London and Manchester. In London, the city's relentless pace and its blend of tradition and innovation offer endless inspiration. And, in Manchester, the industrial heritage meets modern regeneration, creating a unique urban landscape. Fueling Daniel’s creativity further.
