NAKED IS ALWAYS IN FASHION!

Fashions come and go! But naked is always in fashion! Or is it? Well, for one person I recently got the chance to collaborate with, it most definitely is! They’ve made a successful career out of it! International NFT selling, art nude model, Rebecca Perry (https://www.rebeccaperry.net/).

Rebecca has been an art nude model for over 10 years. And in that time has worked with hundreds of incredible photographers, and shot in some of the world’s most beautiful locations. As I write this, Rebecca is currently on a tour of the USA, adding to her already stunning portfolio of work.

Before Rebecca jetted off to the USA, I was lucky enough to get the chance to work with her again. Sadly not in some exotic sun-drenched location, but in my studio in the much less glamorous and slightly overcast grey of the UK. But despite the grey, we still created something pretty colourful!

THE CONCEPT.

Rebecca and I have worked together before, a few years ago, and she is always fantastic to collaborate with. Rebecca brings both a wealth of modelling experience and is also full of creative ideas that always add to any concept we talk over or test. And, it was working with Rebecca on our first shoot, and our talks before our second shoot that actually led to this concept of ‘Naked is always in Fashion’ and these shots.

During our talks, Rebecca and I spoke a lot about ideas around the art nude, censorship, and how for some, nudity is empowering and for others, it’s still a cause of shame or embarrassment. For Rebecca, it’s empowering, and she is very open about being more comfortable modelling nude than in clothes. So, as we said earlier, for Rebecca, ‘Naked is always in Fashion’! I’m not sure you’d be an art nude model for over 10 years if you didn’t enjoy being naked. Do you?

It probably sounds crazy to a lot of people, but it’s true! I’ve always been more comfortable modelling nude than in clothes. Fashion seems to change every week. Who can keep up?

There’s also always so much pressure or critique around what we wear, despite constantly being told we should also be comfortable in our own skin! But to be comfortable, what they actually mean is that you need to buy ‘x product’ to feel that way!

I’m actually genuinely very comfortable in my own skin! That’s why I do what I do, and I love it! I’m lucky enough to earn a living travelling the world creating, and meeting some amazing people along the way too.

I got to work sketching some ideas around the concept of naked always being in fashion, and this was the one that Rebecca and I decided to go with. Bold, colourful and actually realistic to achieve! And let's face it, you don't get much more ‘in-fashion’ than Vogue, right?

'Where did you get all the copies of Vogue?' I hear you ask! Well, luckily for me, my super stylish mother has been subscribed to Vogue since I was a kid, so I knew the years of me hoarding all of these copies would come in handy one day!

Please excuse the crude sketch. I’m a photographer first and foremost. I scribble concepts and ideas down quickly, never with the intention of them being seen by the world.

THE RESULTS…

SO IS NAKED ALWAYS IN FASHION?

Well, that’s an interesting question and one that only you can answer. I understand that nudity isn’t for everyone, even in art. Whether you like the concept or not, as creators, all we can do is create and leave the critique to the viewers.

Rebecca and I shot a lot of ideas and concepts on our shoot. I’m sure I'll share some more of the images in the future, so keep an eye out for them in the projects section of the site.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Rebecca for all she brought to the shoot creatively. Talking through ideas and helping to bring some of the concepts to life. Oh, and also for my basic lesson in the world of NFTs. I’d also like to finally say a massive congratulations to Rebecca and her partner, on their recent engagement! I hope you both create many more stunning images and NFTs from your travels together!
