Sophie’s work blends traditional Japanese art with more modern techniques and a hell of a lot of colour. Unlike much of the original Japanese art. Sophie’s style is vibrant and bold. But finding your style can be tough for any creative. For Sophie, it was through extensive exploration and experimentation that she discovered hers. By trying out different techniques and styles, she was able to find what resonated with her.
This process of experimenting is crucial for any artist to find a style they truly love. Sophie’s journey underscores the importance of persistence and the willingness to try new things in the pursuit of artistic identity.
From a young age, Sophie has been passionate about art and creativity. Her journey of exploring and experimenting has helped her define a distinct style. Growing up in a creatively rich environment, Sophie was influenced heavily by her grandfather, an artist, her mother, a seamstress, and her father, a screen printer and carpenter. Surrounded by such creative influences, Sophie developed an obsession with art, constantly initiating projects to explore different styles and methods of working.
Sophie’s fascination with Japanese art was sparked by her discovery of vibrant Japanese fabrics while working alongside her seamstress mother. The intricate patterns and rich colors of these fabrics captivated her, igniting a desire to delve deeper into Japanese culture and artistic traditions. This early exposure fueled her passion for exploring the stories and aesthetics of Geisha culture, ultimately shaping her unique artistic style that beautifully blends traditional Japanese elements with contemporary flair.
Sophie meticulously researches to understand and respect the cultural nuances that shape her work, learning as much about Japanese culture and tradition as possible, and even starting to learn the language. This dedication to authenticity enriches her art, adding depth and an added respect to her representations.
