No, it's not the title of a Wes Anderson film, though it’s possible to imagine a quirky tale unfolding against the backdrop of charming French streets and eccentric characters with a title like this. But, in a plot twist, this story is actually about a photographer's journey capturing a few moments frozen in time, and those moments in time being deemed worthy of an ‘Honourable French Mention’. Not just any ‘Honourable French Mention’ but one in the prestigious Paris Photography Prize (PX3) Awards.

STAGES OF MELANCHOLIA.

That’s right! Another competition and another ‘honourable mention’ for one of my favourite sets of images that I’ve created in a long time. If you’ve been reading the blog for a while then I'm sure you’ll recognise these images, and I hope, understand the significance and meaning of them. But, if for some reason you haven’t seen them before, then you can read about the series in the ‘Melancholia’ blog and see them below.

ARTISTIC VALIDATION?

Getting this nod of approval from the big shots at a prestigious competition like the Paris PX3 Awards, my inner artist is doing a happy dance, with a French beret on obviously! It’s such an honour to have my work recognised alongside so many other talented photographers from around the world. You can check out the winners and other honourable mentions here. I didn’t win, so there’s a lot of room for improvement. But, another small taste of artistic validation is always helpful in fighting off that imposter syndrome that many artists face. Me included! I’ve only begun entering competitions in the last year or so since starting Creative Nowhere Land. So, for this set to have received honourable mentions in a couple of competitions means the world to me, and is more encouragement to enter more in the future.

PRINT SALES!

As creatives, it’s important to have time and space to create. To do that these days, we all have to earn money to in some way, facilitate that creative freedom. I see lots of creatives and artists doing some fantastic things in order to earn money and keep creating. Whether that’s active or passive income! Everything from online stores, merchandise, commissions, direct sales, exhibitions, courses, stickers, the list is endless and one I’m trying to pay attention to for Creative Nowhere Land.

So, with that being said and with this set seeming to be popular, it’s given me the kick up the arse to try and sort out a print shop for the website. Obvious place to start right? But, I want to do it properly so please bear with me, especially if you are one of the people who’s asked about purchasing this set.

Building the online shop, working out print sizes, prices, paper types, postage, and packaging. There’s so much to think about but I’m making it my goal over the next few weeks to tackle it head-on and to hopefully have an online shop set up that you can buy selected prints from in the future.
